Erasmus is the most famous and most successful EU exchange programme. From 2014 onwards, several programmes are merged under Erasmus+. Erasmus+ is the new name of the former Erasmus programme. It allows higher education students to become a trainee abroad for a period from 2 to 12 months.

Ideal for

professional experience, long-term mobility, line on the CV, formal recognition, language learning.

The one to know

http://ec.europa.eu/education/opportunities/higher-education/traineeships_en.htm

I can benefit of it if

I am a higher education student or I’ve completed my degree in the last 12 months.

I can leave for

From 2 to 12 months. Once per cycle of studies (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate).

I can go

To all 28 EU member states, as well as Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey depending on the agreements of my Higher Education Institution.

I will receive

Financial support between 150€ and 500€ depending on the host country and the rules in my country. An extra 100€ to 200€ that may be decided nationally. Linguistic preparation at my home or in my host institution.

When I come back, I’ll have gained

  • Confidence and independence after living in a foreign country
  • Professional skills in my field of work
  • Applied language skills
  • Increased flexibility and intercultural understanding

I need to prepare

A semester in advance to be sure not to miss any deadlines as the administrative processes can be quite long. I must be aware that deadlines may differ according to Higher Education Institutions. If I want to go after my graduation, I have to apply as long as I am still enrolled in Higher Education Institution.

For help I should contact

The Erasmus Coordinator of my faculty, the International Relations Office of my Higher Education Institution or my local ESN section.

Good tips

Some additional funding (regional, local, institutional) is often available. ESN is developing a platform to facilitate the meeting between trainees and traineeships: http://erasmusintern.org/
