ESN Köln is a university group of students at the University of Cologne. It’s part of the international network “Erasmus Student Network” (ESN). ESN is an organisation of Erasmus initiatives led by students, as it is the case with ESN Köln. The members of the 29 currently existing sections in Germany guide about 9.000 international students per year, working on a voluntary basis. ESN exists at about 430 Higher Education Institutions in about 37 countries. Consequently, ESN Köln belongs to one of the largest interdisciplinary student’s initiatives around the world. Therefore, many national and international events use to take place within this framework.

Our aim is to support and guide all international students during their stay in Cologne, to improve their integration as well as to make the return from abroad to Germany easier for former exchange students by enabling them to participate in our university group. Hence, our motto is “students help students”: We put ourselves out actively and on a voluntary basis for our aims. By means of our work, also local students shall get the opportunity to establish more contacts with international students and to profit from a cultural exchange, which might motivate them to do a semester abroad one day. ESN works for the creation of a more mobile and flexible education environment by supporting and developing the student exchange from different levels, and providing an intercultural experience also to those students who cannot access a period abroad ("internationalisation at home").

In this context, we work out a varied cultural program and offer additional free time activities every semester, among which all students participating in our trips can be financially supported. In addition, we support external projects like “Europa macht Schule”.
